Ps 20:4-5 and 7 May He grant you your heart's desire and fulfill all your plans! 5 May we shout for joy over your salvation, and in the name of our God set up our banners! May the LORD fulfill all your petitions!... Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God
Ps 16:11 You make known to me the path of life; in Your presence there is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
"This is our hope—not that we are at work, but that God is at work. He is seeking, and what He seeks he finds." (James Boice)
James 3:17-18 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. 18 And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
Ps 3:3, 8 But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head... 8 Salvation belongs to the LORD, Your blessing be upon Your people!
"Give your children big truths they can grow into rather than light explanations they will grow out of." (Tedd Tripp from Truth & Grace Memory Book #1)
Job 37:22-24 Out of the north comes golden splendor; God is clothed with awesome majesty. 23 The Almighty—we cannot find Him; He is great in power; justice and abundant righteousness He will not violate. 24 Therefore men fear Him; He does not regard any who are wise in their own conceit.”
Job 28:12-13. “But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding? 13 Man does not know its worth, and it is not found in the land of the living And where is the place of understanding?... 28 And He said to man, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.’”
Job 26:11-14. The pillars of heaven tremble and are astounded at His rebuke. 12 By His power He stilled the sea; by His understanding He shattered Rahab. 13 By His wind the heavens were made fair; His hand pierced othe fleeing serpent. 14 Behold, these are but the outskirts of His ways, and how small a whisper do we hear of Him! But the thunder of His power who can understand?” There are many things about the book of Job that leave me confused! But the majesty, sovereignty and power of God are so very clear in this book.
"Joy is the serious business of heaven." (C.S. Lewis)
"Do you realize tonight believer that Jesus didn’t just come seeking someone. He came seeking you." (Alistar Begg)
Joy is all the more joyful when it is shared! Luke 15:6,9
Luke 15:10 Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” For the next 2 weeks will be looking at the parables in Luke 15. Parables of brokenness and repentance, mercy and joy!
Luke 15:2 And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, “This man receives sinners and eats with them.” The great news of God's gracious condescending to sinful man will lead the self-righteous to grumble but the 'poor in spirit' to humble worship.
Luke 15:2 And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled It doesn't surprise us when legalistic, self-righteous folk grumble in the face of God's great display of grace.
Luke 15:1-2a "Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him. 2 And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled" Does grace cause us to grumble or glory in the wonder that the Holy One would stoop to fellowship with unholy people?
Job 5:17 ‘Can mortal man be in the right before God? Can a man be pure before his Maker? The NT gives us a resounding, 'Yes!, in Christ and Christ alone!"
What I hope and pray for from this passage (Luke 10:25-37): 1. God would stir us out of our partial blindness to the terrible spiritual and physical state of others. 2. God would stir in us an intentional compassion for others. 3. God would stir in us a risk taking love for others. 4. God would stir in us a new tenderness and affection for people unlike us. 5. God would stir us to be merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in loving-kindness and faithfulness. 6. God would stir in us a love for Him and others that we have never seen before. 7. God would stir in us an amazement that He has loved us like this in Jesus.
